I know that you know that I know.

I was watching an episode of House yesterday, and was struck by the surreal quality of one particular scene. Dr. Gregory House, played by British actor Hugh Laurie in a very good American accent, gets an idea for a patient at about 3:00 a.m. and calls a doctor that treated her a year and a half ago. He gets hung up on, and rightly so. Cut to the very next scene, where he calls the doctor back, only this time, he fakes a English accent: "Oh, I'm terribly sorry, is it really that early over there?"

The great thing is, it wasn't his normal English accent; it was the kind of accent that bad American actors do when they're trying to be English dandies. I saw an English guy doing his impression of an American doing an impression of an Englishman. There's something a little unsettling about that.
