Social relationships are unnecessary in an ivory tower

Excerpt from a discussion I had with my thesis supervisor today:

She: So, how are you finding writing all these papers?
I: Surprisingly, very well. They kind of symbiotically merge with my schedule.
She: Oh?
I: Yeah, it pretty much sucks up any free time I'd have to do nothing -
She: We can't have you doing nothing.
I: Or hanging out with, you know, people.
She: See? You're already adjusting to the life of an academic.

I know she's joking, but all jokes have a kernel of truth to them.
