Seven Samurai and Bad Science

Watched The Seven Samurai today, which rocked the casbah. It's over 3 hours long, but you really don't feel it dragging at all. Well, that's not true. I think it takes about 20 minutes to get into it and get how Kurosawa tells the story, but if you can settle down into the decidedly non-Western rhythm of it all, it just blows by you. And the acting is fantastic, too: each actor puts a lot - in some cases, almost too much - into their role to make every character individual and distinct. I'd ramble on about this, but I think it'd get boring: I'm not in the review mindset. Still, Seven Samurai = Awesome.

During the viewing, a large, loud machine rolled by outside; I opened the blinds to see what it was, and then closed them again, loudly, to reduce the glare on the television. Which resulted in the following conversation:

Nez: That's not going to make the noise any quieter.
Me: Actually, I am a scientist. And as a scientist, I can tell you that sound waves are nothing but modified light waves.
Ninja: I think my Bad Science sense is tingling.
Nez: I don't believe it.
Me: Who else here is a scientist?
Nez: Fine then, prove it.
Me: No. I don't want to.
Ninja: Oh! Bad Science!
Me: Why, because I'm not going to demonstrate my theory?
Nez: No, because you said "Actually, I am a scientist."
Scotty: That's the number one predictor of Bad Science right there.

Meanwhile, Jago is on hour 21 of 24 in terms of hours worked since Thursday morn.

So he can say "I hate you for watching the Seven Samurai without me."

Also, he'll babble on a bit due to lack of a proper sleep.

Pauvre Jago!

Meanwhile, the "once worked a 91-hour week" Ninja has little to no sympathy for a Jago who complains about lack of sleep yet stays up late to play World of Warcraft or watch this week's wrestling. :p

If you start working 12 hours a day for months or even weeks at a time, then I'll open the Sympathy Store. Right now, we're only open 9am-3pm, Monday to Thursday, and noon-5pm Fridays. Closed weekends and holidays.
