Mmmm, ain't nothin' like Leftover Surprise!
I've been having cravings for weird food lately. Not like peanut-butter-and-pickled-herring sandwiches weird, but food that I haven't had in a long, long time. Two weeks ago it was chicken pot pie, last week it was minute steak with tomato sauce, and last night it was tuna-noodle-casserole. All three of those were things I ate when I was a kid, not really comfort food, but still, I haven't eaten some of that stuff for over ten years. Strange what creeps up on you sometimes. Anybody else have any Old Family Dinners they've had a hankerin' for lately?

My mom used to cook up these battered round eye steaks that she would pummel with a tenderizer first so they would melt in your mouth. Mix that up with some new garden potatoes and corn. Farmey goodness.

Sounds like somebody's pregnant. Congratulations!
Spanish rice - which was rice, ketchup, and browned ground beef. Yeah, I had some real gourmets in my family.
People, your delicious home-style foods make me drool - yes, even your "Spanish Rice" Sylvana. (We had that too, we just called it ground beef & rice.) Although it could be because I haven't eaten in...five hours.
As far as the pregnancy goes, Otto, you caught me. Just don't tell anyone: Peach'd call off the engagement.
My mom used to make chipped beef on toast -- basically chopped up deli ham, toast, and white gravy -- and Lordy was it good. I'm pretty sure I'd hate it now, but to an 8 year old it was gold.
Otto, our chipped beef on toast was with ground beef instead of ham. My grandma actually sprang for the GOOD chipped beef - like with actual slices of beef. It was so good!
