Donuts > Money

An excerpt from a conversation I had on the way home with my friend Kaos:
Kaos: So, how's work?
Me: Oh, I'm not at work that much; I'm spending more time at school.
Kaos: School's work.
Me: How so?
Kaos: Work is anything that you put more work into than you get in an immediate reward. At work, I put in eight hours and get money - no immediate reward, it's work. At school, you put in thousands of dollars and brainpower and get the opportunity to get money later on - no immediate reward, it's work.
Me: So, let me get this straight. If I put in time and effort and all I get is money, it's work. And if I put in time and effort and all I get is donuts?
Kaos: That's not work. That's awesome.
